Covid-19 safety guidelines presented for the next academic year

Ministry for Education and Science of Latvia presented guidelines outlining safety rules to be observed for the upcoming academic year for studies onsite. The Latvian Parliament Saeima still has to decide on this.

Studies -  to take place onsite

According to the guidelines in higher education establishments, in universities and colleges only people with a Covid-19 certificate will be able to study onsite.

The higher education institution must collect information on the time of arrival of the foreign students and the address of the place of their residence in Latvia. In case of necessity and possibility, the university provides with opportunity to observe self-isolation, in close cooperation with the student.

Each university can decide on full or partial onsite studies

A transitional period is foreseen until October 10, when people with a negative test performed during the last 48 hours, will also be able to participate in onsite studies. Costs of the tests bear persons concerned.

Evaluating the epidemiological situation and considering the specifics of the study programme, universities are entitled to make their own reasoned decision on the full or partial study programme, module, or course remotely, ensuring that the study quality level is not impacted.

Therefore, Study in Latvia recommends international students to contact their chosen university to find out about the details of the beginning of the new academic year.
