Citizens from more than 40 eligible countries are welcome to apply online for the Latvian state scholarships for studies. Call for applications for the academic year 2023/2024 is open from 1st February to 1st April.

Eligible applicants and countries

Latvian state scholarships are provided for international students, researchers, academic and scientific teaching staff at Latvian higher education institutions.

Bachelor's students, who have already successfully completed at least 1 academic year at any higher education institution (HEI), can apply. Master’s, PhD students from any previous HEI are eligible applicants, as well as academic and scientific staff of Latvian or foreign higher education and research institutions.

Eligible countries are more than 40 countries from Europe, Asia, North and South America, which have signed an agreement on the co-operation in education and science with Latvia, or other partner countries.

Amount of the scholarship varies

The amount of the scholarship for studies is €500 per month for Bachelor’s and Master’s students and €700 per month for PhD students. The scholarship is awarded for up to 10 months for Bachelor’s and Master’s students and for up to 11 months for PhD students.

Not all the expenses are fully covered

Each applicant may submit only one application on an open call, and scholarships cannot be awarded concurrently with other grants.
