Four Latvian universities ranked in THE World University Rankings 2022

Four Latvian universities have been included in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2022, as the newest results published in September 2021 show.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings include global performance tables that rate more than 1,600 institutions all around the world.

In order to compare the performance of universities, 13 calibrated indicators grouped in 5 areas such as teaching (the learning environment), research (volume, income and reputation), citations (research influence), international outlook (staff, students and research) and industry income (knowledge transfer) are used under the methodology.

Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) – ranked 501–600

For the first time Riga Stradiņš University has entered The Times Higher Education World University Rankings taking place among the 501-600 best universities in the world and leading position amongst the four top ranked universities in Latvia. Furthermore, it has gained the second position amongst all the Baltic countries, after Tartu University, which ranked 251–300.

RSU managed to achieve the highest result in the citation index of scientific publications, gaining 82.1 points and ranking 252nd in the world in this category.

As the rector of Riga Stradiņš University, prof. Aigars Pētersons emphasized, the high achievement of RSU was possible through implementing a long-term development strategy, which ensures the continuous growth of the university towards excellence.

University of Latvia (LU) – ranked 601 - 800

University of Latvia has maintained its last years position 601-800, however, it has improved its results in all five categories. The highest results are taken by LU in the evaluation of scientific activity - 469th place, and in cooperation with industry - 499th place.

As the rector of University of Latvia, prof. Indriķis Muižnieks, commented, the high evaluation of science is another proof that in Latvia we are able to train high-class specialists who are respected and recognized by colleagues all over the world.

Riga Technical University (RTU) – ranked 1001–1200

Riga Technical University has ranked 1001–1200 amongst worlds universities, and in the area of cooperation with industry, RTU has been recognized as the 242nd best university in the world. Overall RTU has maintained its rank from last year, increasing the results in four of the areas – teaching, research, industry income and international outlook.

Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU) – ranked 1201+

Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies has ranked 1201+, showing improved results in teaching and international outlook in comparison to last year, however, due to the results in other areas it has lost its last years rank among 1001–1200 top universities. LLU has the highest score in science, ranking 734th in this area.
