With 11 tables dedicated to 11 different subject areas, the THE Subject Rankings are a great resource to help compare universities across the world in a specific subject area – these tables can be filtered by country, institution and teaching and research scores.

Latvian universities are included in the ranking by 6 subjects: Clinical, Pre-clinical and Health Sciences, Computer Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Social Sciences.

University of Latvia – ranked 301 - 400 in the subject of Clinical and Health Sciences

The University of Latvia (UL) is included in four subject categories with the highest evaluation among the Latvian universities. For the first time it is included in the evaluation of Clinical, Pre-clinical and Health Sciences, ranking 301-400 and taking the second place in the Baltics.
The University of Latvia has significantly increased its ranking data in several other sectors. In the evaluation of Life Sciences, for the first time the UL was included last year and during the year the UL has risen from the 501-600th place to the 401-500th place, continuing to keep the highest place in the ranking among the Latvian universities.

In the evaluation of Social Sciences, the university has risen from the 601+ place to the 501st - 600th place and is a leader in Latvia in this subject ranking. While in the ranking of Physical Sciences the UL has kept its place at 601 – 800, also rated the highest in Latvia.

Riga Technical University – Latvian leader in Computer Science and Engineering & Technology 

The performance of Riga Technical University (RTU) in the ranking is the best in subjects of Engineering & Technology and Computer Science studies in which it has been evaluated as the highest among other Latvian universities.

In both subjects RTU is placed in the group of 601-800. RTU is the only university from Latvia that has been included in the subject of Computer Science. The university is also included in the ranking of Physical Sciences, where it takes the 801-1000th place.

Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies – ranked in three subject areas

Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU) has been included in the ranking of subjects as Engineering & Technology, Life Sciences and Social Sciences.

In Social Sciences LLU has the 601+ place, the same place also for Life Sciences, which is the most historical specialization of the university, with which its activity and development began.

In the Engineering & Technology subject, the university is ranked 801-1000, maintaining the previous year's position. According to the information provided by the university, as the number of universities evaluated in the rating has increased, the indicators of LLU in the context of other universities have improved.

1512 universities were evaluated 

In total, the 2021 ranking includes 1512 higher education institutions worldwide, of which 522 – for the first time. The rankings assessed the performance of higher education institutions according to five main indicators, which were analyzed in more detail in 13 different criteria. In subject rankings, university data are evaluated taking into account the specifics of particular areas.
