The results of Latvian state scholarship competition will be announced in June

This year, the State Education Development Agency of Latvia has received 348 applications from foreigners in 33 countries.

On 1st of April, 2020, the application for Latvian state scholarships for studies and research for the 2020/2021 academic year was completed. This year, the State Education Development Agency of Latvia has received 348 applications from foreigners in 33 countries. An administrative and quality evaluation of the applications has been started and the results of the scholarship competition will be announced in June 2020.

261 applications for scholarships for studies have been received from students of 33 countries, mostly from Azerbaijan, Germany, Uzbekistan, Finland and Israel. The most popular fields of study are healthcare, business and administration, and computer science.

87 applications for fellowships for research have been received. Academic and scientific staff from 21 countries have applied. Most applications were received from Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Italy and Georgia. The most popular areas for research are the social sciences, the humanities and the arts, and the natural sciences.

Researchers who carry out their research in Latvian higher education and research institutions can receive a fellowship of €30 per day and €300 per month to cover accommodation expenses for a period of up to 5 months. The amount of the Latvian state scholarship for bachelor's and master's level students is €500 per month, but for doctoral students - €670 per month.

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of bilateral agreements on co-operation in education and science, as well as on a parity basis - for those countries that also provide Latvian citizens with the opportunity to apply for scholarships. In 2020, residents from 41 countries could apply for Latvian state scholarships. More here

The next application for scholarships is planned in 2021. As every year, open call for applications will start on 1st of February and will run until 1st of April.
