Study programme descriptionThis study programme leads to a qualification in navigation at management level on board ships of 500 GT or more in compliance with STCW-78, as amended and
higher level professional education (BSc equivalent) as stipulated by the Law on Institutions of Higher Education of the Republic of Latvia.

Studies are organised as lectures, seminars and project work.

Main subjects include: Maritime English, Navigation, Celestial Navigation, Ship Construction and Theory, Maritime Law, Maritime Safety, Environment Maritime Protection, Ship Handling, Manoeuvring and SAR, Radio Communication Management and GMDSS and others. Seagoing practice for the duration of 12 months is included in the programme.

The programme enables graduates to qualify as Ship Deck Officers at a management level without any restrictions of tonnage and sailing area. In their future career development, they are very likely to qualify for a Marine Superintendent’s position in shipping or ship management companies.
