Study programme description		Aims of the programme The Higher professional Study programme in Medicine is a professional, 6-year higher education programme (360 ECTS credit points). The programme conforms to the EU norms that regulate medical education and allow workforce migration throughout Europe. The 6th-year research project includes a thesis based on the student’s practical research, which must be completed, written, and publicly defended. After the completion of the programme, students receive a Medical Doctor Degree. Main study courses Studying medicine, students do the following pre-clinical and clinical courses of study: Anatomy, Histology, Embryology, Cell Biology, Introduction to Medical Studies, Physics, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Genetics, Physiology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Immunology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Basics of Clinical Care, Internal Diseases, Surgery, Environmental Health, Emergency Medicine and Basic Life Support, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dermatology/Venereal Diseases, Epidemiology and Public Health, Social Medicine, Paediatrics, Infection Diseases, Neurology, Medical History and Ethics, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Psychiatry, Psychology, Clinical practices in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Surgery and practice in all clinical fields. Career opportunities and further studies The Medical Doctor Degree allows entering a residency and/or begin PhD studies.

Requirements		1.General secondary education diploma is required in order to be admitted for studies at the University of Latvia; 2. If English is not your native language and/or your previous education is not obtained in English, you must present results of one of the internationally recognized language tests or minimum a grade 6 (almost good) in a 10 point grading system in English in the general secondary education diploma to prove the language proficiency. 3. Grades in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Natural Sciences, which should be no less than 6(almost good) in a 10 point grading system.

Accommodation possibilities and costs: The University of Latvia offers university dormitories for all international students. International students are housed in single, double or tripple rooms with a common kitchen for every 5 rooms. Linen, blankets and pillows are provided as well as some kitchen utensils. The payment for the dormitory is starting at 60 Ls (85 EUR, 114 USD) per month (more information here).
If you do not wish to stay at a dormitory, it is advisable to make private housing arrangements beforehand.
