|Study programme description||The programme offers courses in English-English module and Scandinavian studies (English-Danish, Swedish or Norwegian). The courses within English Philology are: Linguistics, Literature and Culture, e.g., Basics of Translation Theory, English Normative Phonetics and Phonology, Integrated Text Analysis, English Literature. The students of the English-English module also have the courses in British, USA or Canadian Cultural Studies and choice of acquiring second foreign language (French, Spanish, German, or Italian, or Russian). The students of the Scandinavian module gain an in-depth knowledge of a Scandinavian language, culture and literature. Later the students specialise either in Linguistics or Literature and Culture, acquiring knowledge in EU Institutional and Project Management Discourse, Creative Writing, Visual and Film Studies, American Literature.
The graduates may pursue further studies in the Master’s programme English Philology or any other relevant programme. They are qualified to make a career in various professional contexts in local and international labour market, for instance, working as teachers in language centres, translators and interpreters in translation agencies, guides in travel agencies, editors in publishing houses, referents and management assistants as well as in other positions in various branches in state, municipality and private companies and institutions (public relations and marketing companies, media a.o.) ensuring internal and external communication in a foreign language.

Accommodation possibilities and costs: The University of Latvia offers university dormitories for all international students. International students are housed in single, double or triple rooms with a common kitchen for every 5 rooms. Linen, blankets and pillows are provided as well as some kitchen utensils. The costs start at 100 EUR per month (more information here).
If you do not wish to stay at a dormitory, it is advisable to make private housing arrangements beforehand.
