|Study programme description||This programme is designed for students who are interested in the studies of the language and literature of the German-speaking countries, associate their future with advanced German studies and seek in-depth knowledge of the language and literature along with studies of Latvia’s cultural heritage, considering the relevance of the German language in the Baltic history and culture. Students will appreciate the quality of Germanic studies, translation skill, and a comprehensive view of the German literature and history, which will contribute to career advancement.
The programme offers two-module directions of the curriculum, majoring in either linguistics and translation or culture and literature.
After successful completion of the programme graduates may pursue further studies in the Master’s degree program ‘German Philology’ or any other relevant programme. After successful completion of the programme, graduates work in any field that requires a previous education in humanities.

Accommodation possibilities and costs: The University of Latvia offers university dormitories for all international students. International students are housed in single, double or triple rooms with a common kitchen for every 5 rooms. Linen, blankets and pillows are provided as well as some kitchen utensils. The costs start at 100 EUR per month (more information here).
If you do not wish to stay at a dormitory, it is advisable to make private housing arrangements beforehand.
