|Study programme description||The study programme places a strong emphasis on analytical engineering science and technical fundamentals, which require the ability to apply core mathematical skills, since growing demand for modern and complex industrial machinery, machine tools, robotics and computer controlled processes require highly qualified technologists for their development, manufacture, use and support.
Studies are organised in the form of lectures, seminars, project works and discussion groups.
Acquired skills of theoretical calculations and computer applications help to solve problems in mechanics and lab experiments creating a solid basis for a further career in industry or further studies in a master programme. Graduates can pursue a mechanical engineer career in both local and international projects as well as in various companies (e.g. automobiles, shipyards, railway transport, etc.) where there is a requirement for expertise in combustion, noise and vibration process control, robotics, quality management, biological engineering,
space research, liquid mechanics, water supply, planning machine and mechanism maintenance, consumer goods design, pollution control and mechanical synthesis of new materials.

Riga Technical University (RTU) is the oldest university in Latvia, and it has long-standing traditions dating back to 1862. It is an accredited, fully state owned, internationally recognized European level university. According to the requirements of the European Space for Higher Education, RTU offers academic and professional study programmes at three levels – bachelor, master and doctoral studies. RTU is the only engineering university providing engineering programmes and business studies in Latvia. At present it is one of the largest technical universities in the Baltic Sea region and gathers nearly 16 000 students at eight faculties in various study programmes.
RTU has a leading role in number of research projects financed by the EU. Among university alumni there are presidents, prime-ministers and ministers of several European countries, key figures in Latvia’s business and industry. All European countries according to the Lisbon Convention recognize the diplomas issued by the Riga Technical University, on Recognition of Qualification Concerning Higher Education in the European Region, signed in April 1997. RTU degrees are also recognized in the United States, Canada, India, Pakistan, Lebanon, Syria, Nepal, Cameroon, Nigeria and other countries. In 2002 several of RTU engineering programs were approved by United States, Department of Veteran Affairs as eligible for «G. I. Bill» financial benefits.
