|Study programme description||The RTU provides students with the professional skills needed to enter a successful career in the field of telecommunications as a highly-trained technology specialist able fro delve within the realms of the research and development professional.
Studies are organised in the form of lectures, seminars, project works and discussion groups.
The task of Internet Technology and Communications specialists is that of understanding and administrating exceedingly complex communication systems in order to ensure elastic and sustainable operation. The academic programme focuses both on theory and practice and includes innovative solutions, the know-how of new technology development and industry trends. This Master study programme provides a blend of knowledge from electrical engineering and computer science, building upon the solid foundation achieved during Bachelor studies. The aim of the programme is to provide to the workplace an engineer of the highest standard or alternatively the skills required to continue with further studies at the Doctoral level.

Riga Technical University (RTU) is the oldest university in Latvia, and it has long-standing traditions dating back to 1862. It is an accredited, fully state owned, internationally recognized European level university. According to the requirements of the European Space for Higher Education, RTU offers academic and professional study programmes at three levels – bachelor, master and doctoral studies. RTU is the only engineering university providing engineering programmes and business studies in Latvia. At present it is one of the largest technical universities in the Baltic Sea region and gathers nearly 16 000 students at eight faculties in various study programmes.
RTU has a leading role in number of research projects financed by the EU. Among university alumni there are presidents, prime-ministers and ministers of several European countries, key figures in Latvia’s business and industry. All European countries according to the Lisbon Convention recognize the diplomas issued by the Riga Technical University, on Recognition of Qualification Concerning Higher Education in the European Region, signed in April 1997. RTU degrees are also recognized in the United States, Canada, India, Pakistan, Lebanon, Syria, Nepal, Cameroon, Nigeria and other countries. In 2002 several of RTU engineering programs were approved by United States, Department of Veteran Affairs as eligible for «G. I. Bill» financial benefits.
