|Study programme description||The aim of the study programme is to provide in-depth theoretical knowledge, to develop research skills and prepare high level specialists in the sectors of engineering production and sciences of machines, as well as prepare students for further Doctor level studies.
Studies are organised in the form of lectures, seminars, project work and discussion groups.
Main study courses offered include Technological Facilities of Apparatus Building, Technological Facilities of Apparatus Building, Cutting Theory, Physical and Thermal Processes, Processing of Parts with NC Tools. Students in this programme acquire knowledge of fundamental sciences, as well as special field subjects in two specialisations: Apparatus engineering and Mechanised production and control.
After studies graduates can continue studies in the doctoral programmes or work in companies as leading specialists, for example, in companies engaged in computerised designing, production, adjustment, servicing and repair of products or mechanical engineering and metal constructions, mechanical equipment and technical devices, products.

Riga Technical University (RTU) is the oldest university in Latvia, and it has long-standing traditions dating back to 1862. It is an accredited, fully state owned, internationally recognized European level university. According to the requirements of the European Space for Higher Education, RTU offers academic and professional study programmes at three levels – bachelor, master and doctoral studies. RTU is the only engineering university providing engineering programmes and business studies in Latvia. At present it is one of the largest technical universities in the Baltic Sea region and gathers nearly 16 000 students at eight faculties in various study programmes.
RTU has a leading role in number of research projects financed by the EU. Among university alumni there are presidents, prime-ministers and ministers of several European countries, key figures in Latvia’s business and industry. All European countries according to the Lisbon Convention recognize the diplomas issued by the Riga Technical University, on Recognition of Qualification Concerning Higher Education in the European Region, signed in April 1997. RTU degrees are also recognized in the United States, Canada, India, Pakistan, Lebanon, Syria, Nepal, Cameroon, Nigeria and other countries. In 2002 several of RTU engineering programs were approved by United States, Department of Veteran Affairs as eligible for «G. I. Bill» financial benefits.
