Study programme descriptionThis programme is based on studies of natural sciences, biology, medicine and basic principles of primary eye care service. Bachelor programme is the first step in professional optometrist education scheme in Latvia. The programme offers extensive profile studies of natural sciences including organic chemistry, biology, calculus, physics for natural sciences, optics, basics of human anatomy, general physiology, ophthalmic optics, microbiology, biochemistry, anatomy and physiology of the eye, physiology of vision, optometric instruments, refractive defects, binocular vision and others.

The main study courses are: Mathematics for Optometry, Chemistry for Optometrists, Optics, Biology, Data Collecting and Processing in Sciences, Biochemistry, Optical Materials, General Physiology, Ophthalmic Optics, Anatomy and Physiology of the Eye, Microbiology. The thesis topic should be chosen carefully under the supervisor’s assistance for further research.

The graduates of the programme can continue their education in Master’s degree programmes. This programme prepares competitive graduates with profound knowledge and skills in optometry for both Latvian and European labour markets.

RequirementsGeneral secondary high school diploma; English language proficiency. Grade in Mathematics must be no less than 4 in a 10 point grading system.
