|Study programme description||Environmental Science doctoral study programme consists of a number of theoretical and applied study courses, training and preparation for final examinations and independent research work. The study courses include studies supporting the development of generic skills (e.g.Statistics, Basic modeling of environmental processes, Scientific writing, Science communication, Lecturing). Theoretical courses are dedicated also to self-studies in basic directions of environmental science: Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Technologies, Environmental Protection and Nature Conservation. A part of the doctoral programme is allocated to reparation to final examinations in a foreign language, environmental science and sub-branch of environmental science. The major emphasis is put on the research work under the supervision of a scientific supervisor. The study ends with a discussion of a thesis. The goal of the doctoral studies is to obtain a doctoral degree and to educate competitive highly qualified specialists who take part in international academic circulation for academic work at universities and other higher educational establishments, as well as for research and organising work in public or private institutions.|

Accommodation possibilities and costs: The University of Latvia offers university dormitories for all international students. International students are housed in single, double or triple rooms with a common kitchen for every 5 rooms. Linen, blankets and pillows are provided as well as some kitchen utensils. The costs start at 100 EUR per month (more information here).
If you do not wish to stay at a dormitory, it is advisable to make private housing arrangements beforehand.
