Study programme description		The general purpose of the doctoral programme in mathematics is to prepare high quality professionals in mathematics and mathematical modelling, which are able to formulate and solve important problems of contemporary mathematics. Mathematical modelling is science for future. It describes the real world phenomena using the language of mathematics and form, together with theoretical analysis and experiments, the basis for exact sciences and engineering.

Daugavpils University (DU) was founded in 1921 and today is the biggest regional state university and the only university in Eatern-Latvia. DU has five faculties: the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the Faculty of Music and Art and the Faculty of Education and Management.
