|Study programme description||The aim of the study programme is the development of modern research methodology in biology. Students have practice in scientific and education work in 18 specialised laboratories. Students’ participate in DU, Latvian and foreign scientific institutions’ research. There is systematic participation in scientific conferences, publications
in recognised international biology journals. Studies include such studying forms as lectures, seminars, project work, individual work, laboratory work, etc. Programme envisages the most current scientific theories and methods in biology, the modern research methodology, and research methods of modern biology in different sub-
Students acquire the most significant theoretical findings and choose the specialisation from sub-disciplines of Biology — Zoology and Ecology; investigate the problems of a definite sub-discipline. The acquired skills meet the requirements of the following spheres: employees in research, management or organisational sphere in biology and science-related state institutions or private enterprises.

Daugavpils University (DU) was founded in 1921 and today is the biggest regional state university and the only university in Eatern-Latvia.
